The quickest way to check the site for new posts when you log on would be to click on where it says "Todays Post" or "New Posts", up in the top menu bar. The system will give you a list of new posts in any of the forums.
The "Todays Posts" button is on the forum index page, and the "New Posts" button is in that same menu bar, but in the forums.

All forums list new posts by "Today", "Yesterday", or "Date", in the right hand collum.
