I have been told there is a refinery shutdown going to happen soon on Oahu in Hawaii. Can anyone confirm this? If so, how many fitters will be needed and will there be perdium to offset living expenses. Lived in Hawaii for 8 years. Wouldn't mind having a working vacation and visiting old friends!

Hey,

I was in Hawaii working for Kiewitt in 2006. The way Hawaii works is the main hall is out of Honolulu(on Oahu). If you get dispatched from there to work on that island than there is no per diem. If you get dispatched to any other island than you get a $60/day per diem. Even the locals get that.

As far as Hawaii work goes....The local 675 is primarily plumbers with about 150 active pipefitter/welder members. When a refinery shut down comes around these 150 members come back from surfing to work.jkjk This makes it harder to get out as a traveller unless, there is another job on another island.
