The estimates range from 80 billion to 130 billion in heavy industrial construction, building synthetic crude oil refineries in the Jurisdiction of UA Local 488. About 2/3 of the work is 300 miles north of Edmonton, north of the isolated city of Fort McMurray. Most of the workers are living in construction camps, where meals and housing are provided by the employer. Summer is short and hot, and winter is long, cold, and dark. Maintenance workers working 24 consecutive 10-hour shifts, followed by 4 days off are earning $3000 Canadian per week, after deductions. Most construction workers are working 10 consecutive 10-hour days, followed by four off. They would be averaging about $1500 Canadian per week after deductions. Pre-access drug screening is required on most, if not all jobs.

there are 469 pipefitter jobs for monday, June 4th...they will not be filled.
Something that may or may not be attractive to people are flights in and out of the CNRL site, im not sure on what qualifies you to get these flights, but you could easily find that info out from the LU office (780) 452-1331

Nice website!:I'mWithYa:

So I was wondering, I just checked your dispatch and I didn't see any calls for starters. Has there been many calls for starters lately?

I have already written and passed the UA Local 488 entrance exam.

What's the word?

Hi Eric,

I have never seen any calls for starters at the UA488 dispatch. A couple of questions:

Have you been initiated into the union?

Are you registered as an apprentice?

Are you a journeyman?

What is your trade - plumber? steamfitter? other?

Are you seeking industrial work or commercial work?

Depending on your circumstances, there may be several ways to get started working with UA Local 488. For example, if you are a registered apprentice or a journeyman, but are not yet a member of the union, you could go to a commercial union shop and request a name hire.

I would recommend that you call the union hall, and ask to speak to one of the business agents, describe your circumstances to him, and ask for his advice on how to get started.

If the business agent does not provide you with satisfactory information to your request, let me know and I will try to help.

When I first obtained work with a union shop in 1979 as a fourth year apprentice plumber, who did not yet belong to the union, the union made it unnecessarily difficult for me to get started. I had obtained a name hire with Arpi's Industries, but when I went to the dispatch hall, three days in a row, the dispatcher told me there was nothing for me. I then went to the Alberta Apprenticeship Branch and requested assistance from a government official, who called the union on my behalf. I don't know what he said to the people at the union, but the next day my dispatch slip was waiting for me at the dispatch hall.

Sam.

hello-

don't know where the 100 day stint at the camps came from. in checking the various ads as well as 488's dispatch site, the lengthiest i've run across is 20 on 8 off, which is a 4 week cycle. pretty nice if u need to fly home and thaw out.
