EXPENSE OF
LITIGATION
SEC. 142.
(a) The General President and the
General Secretary-Treasurer are empowered to
pay all
expenses of litigation on which, in their
discretionary
judgment, the United Association has a
direct or indirect
interest.
(b) The United Association is authorized to
pay all
the expenses for investigating services,
employment
of all counsel and other necessary
expenditures in
any cause, matter, case or cases where an
officer, representative, employee, agent or
one charged with acting
in behalf of the United Association is
charged
with any violation or violations of any law
or in any
civil or criminal action: (1) if a majority
of the
General Executive Board in its sole
discretion determines
that said charges or law suits are (a)
unfounded,
or (b) politically motivated, or (c) filed
in bad
faith in an attempt to embarrass or destroy
the Union
or the Union officer or representative, (2)
if a majority
of the General Executive Board in its sole
discretion
determines that the expenditures should be
made.
